Professional review awards

Renee Redfern Hunt Memorial Prize

The Renee Redfern Hunt Memorial Prize is for the best written assignment or test produced at a Professional Review session. First awarded in 1982, the prize is named after Miss Renee Redfern Hunt, MBE, an ICE Professional Examination Officer from 1945 until within a few months of her death in 1981.

Each year, ICE Reviewers nominate candidates from CPR and MPR that they believe have produced the best written assignment or test. From this pool of candidates, a winner is then selected.

All successful nominees, including the overall winner, are listed in NCE magazine and the ICE website.

The winner receives a prize of £100 and a certificate, which are presented at the Certificate Presentation Ceremony.

James Rennie Medal

The James Rennie Medal Award is awarded to the Best Chartered Professional Review Candidate and is open to all applicants who have passed their Professional Review in the year preceding the award.

Candidates are nominated by their reviewers. At their Professional Review the candidate will have demonstrated outstanding qualities in all attributes and will have shown not only a thorough and broad understanding of their subject matter but also a significant contribution in the promotion and development of civil engineering.

Three finalists are shortlisted to present their project reports at the annual James Rennie Medal Award in London where the winner is announced. The award is a £500 cash prize, the James Rennie Medal and a certificate. These are presented at the ICE Annual Awards Ceremony.

Paterson Prize

The Paterson Prize is named after Colonel Paterson who gave a bequest to ICE for the best essay by a Welsh candidate at professional review.

A £200 prize is awarded to those CPR and MPR candidates, who are resident in Wales, and have been commended by their reviewers on the standard of their written assignment or test at a Professional Review session.

Karen Burt Award

The Karen Burt Award is an annual award to encourage women to aim for Chartered Engineer status or professional qualification and is presented to a high caliber newly-chartered female engineer, applied scientist or IT professional, who has demonstrated a commitment to the promotion of her profession.

The Award is run by the Women's Engineering Society (WES), and affiliated institutions, such as ICE, nominate candidates for the award.

ICE candidates are nominated by their Reviewers, with the best shortlisted candidate forwarded to WES. Each candidate should have been awarded Chartered status within 12 months of the forthcoming 1st July.

Last years ICE nomination to the WES was Fleur Loveridge.
