Group Finance Director

Sandy has broad, international experience in finance, treasury, business planning and processes, complemented by a pragmatic approach to business. He has an MBA and chartered accountant qualifications.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Sydney, Sandy joined Deloitte, qualifying as a chartered accountant in Australia in 1983. Following postings to the USA and Papua New Guinea where he was Business Services Manager, Sandy moved to the UK in 1986 and joined the Reuters Group.

Sandy’s career at Reuters spanned 17 years. He worked as Finance & Administration Manager in various countries across continental Europe. From 1992-6, he was responsible for setting up Reuters’ finance and administrative operations across Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, managing and controlling the significant business growth during this period. He then moved to the UK as UK Financial Controller and then Global Financial Controller from 2000-2002.

From 2003-2007, Sandy was Group Treasurer at the London Stock Exchange Group. He was responsible for managing the implementation of large scale capital restructuring, borrowing facilities and public bond issues, which helped LSE to successfully defend five hostile takeover attempts.

In 2008, Sandy moved to the not-for-profit sector, initially as Director of Finance & Corporate Services for Raleigh International from 2008-9, and subsequently in a similar role at The Civil Service Benevolent Fund 2009-11, where he reformed the charity’s governance, internal systems and processes.

Outside of work, Sandy is married with two teenage sons, and is a sports enthusiast, playing cricket and tennis.
