An important aspect of every regional Graduates & Students Committee is organising social events. These are a great way to meet other graduates, technicians and students within the region, to introduce them to the committee members, and to explain exactly what the committee does.
Social events also represent a great way to provide networking opportunities within a more relaxed or informal environment. Many graduates and students see social events like this as the perfect opportunity to obtain guidance and information regarding the ICE. These events also present a great way to thank existing committee members for the invaluable work they do.
Social events take a range of forms. Below you can find details of some key examples, and download further guidance on organising these events.
Pub Quizzes
Pub quizzes have traditionally been one of the most popular social events organised by G&S committees. Generally, teams are made up of up to six people, though it’s important to try and ensure that individuals are able to attend, feel welcome and are able to slot into teams.
In the past committees have tried to get local companies to sponsor these events in order to provide prizes and make the event more attractive. Typically, the quiz should break even, with most regions adopting an entry fee to provide a winnings pool.
