Create Sport Challenge - Details

The Overall Project will:

  • Be website supported – http://www.createsport.org.uk
  • Provide students with a clear project brief and suggested project framework
  • Be design-based with reference to civil engineering and community concerns
  • Result in the production by competing teams of a project report and venue model

Timetable:

  • October – February 2010 – Recruit schools and ambassadors
  • November 2010 – Easter 2011 – Schools project work continues
  • May 2011 – Regional Finals – One winner for each of ICE the 12 ICE Regions
  • 25 May 2011 – Grand Final Selection – President’s Apprentices select six final teams
  • 27 June 2011 – Grand Final in London (with six teams from Create Sport Go4SET)

Project Work will:

  • Be aimed at a minimum of 10 schools/teams per ICE Region – inclusivity is highly stressed
  • Take school teams 20+ hours, spread over several weeks
  • Be performed by teams of three to six students with active teacher facilitation and input
  • (More than one team per school can take the Create Sport Challenge)
  • Be based in schools either during lessons or at other times (at teachers’ discretion)
  • Involve at least one ICE Ambassador per team
  • Be actively supported by the Ambassador
  • Be judged initially on website submission of a project report and photos of your model
  • Be judged against defined assessment criteria
  • Be eligible for accreditation through the British Science Association CREST (Creativity in Science and Technology) Awards (at school’s discretion)

Prizes Include:

  • £1,000 cash for the school of the winning team
  • visits to a major sports venue, a world renowned engineering consultancy, or a major construction site
  • visits to schools from young or competing athletes
