The Great Western Railway, built by Brunel in 1838, is still today a key transport corridor between London and the West. Over the next five years the line is to be upgraded, including electrification of the line for new Intercity Express Programme trains (IEP). The electrification project is a £704M scheme to enable the new trains to run between Paddington and Cardiff, Bristol and Didcot.

So that the overhead electrification can be built and the new trains can run, the railway will be developed to ensure the existing infrastructure is ready. In this presentation, Atkins and Network Rail will explain the civil engineering development work completed to date on this major programme, the advanced site works already ongoing throughout the route, and the plans for works to come, including some of the key challenges of the Great Western Electrification programme.

Please note that there is no requirement to book a place to attend this presentation, but for all other enquiries please contact Joanne Mallard - joanne.mallard@ice.org.uk / 01752 766230.
