Time 09:30 - 17:00
Event Type Seminar

The UK Government’s Climate Change Risk Assessment in 2012 considered the risks, effects and the urgency of action needed to address environmental extremes as a consequence of climate change. It highlighted the challenges faced by civil engineers of adapting the built and natural environment. For example, £1.3 billion of annual damage is caused to UK properties by flooding and this is projected to rise to between £2.1 billion and £12 billion by 2080s if no adaptive action is taken. Similarly by 2050s, between 27 million and 59 million people in the UK may be living in areas affected by water supply-demand deficits. The significant threats that climate change presents to UK building and infrastructure are likely to outweigh the positive effects.

This seminar brings together experts from the public and private sector to discuss the approaches and developments for meeting the engineering challenges of dealing with environmental extremes in the South West.
