Ken Burgin, CEO Cotswold Canals Trust, made his career in the electronics industry starting with silicon chip design and moving on to technical management, eventually becoming a founder, and the Managing Director, of Motion Media PLC.

His interest in the restoration of the Stroudwater Navigation and the Thames & Severn Canal dates back to his school days. He has been involved in the restoration project for over 35 years both at the strategic and hands-on physical restoration level. Over this period, he has gathered a deep understanding of the history and the engineering aspects of these canals.

In 2008, he was appointed Chief Executive of the Cotswold Canal Trust with a particular remit covering the strategic and technical challenges posed by the restoration of these two historic canals. £25m of restoration work is currently underway, but the cost of restoring the through route is likely to exceed £100m. There is even the prospect of the canal being used to transport water from the west to overcome the shortfalls predicted for London.
