The Polperro Sewage Treatment Scheme (STS) was the final phase of South West Water’s £2bn Clean Sweep programme, which modernised sewage treatment all around the South West peninsula, transforming the quality of the region’s bathing waters.
The £6m Polperro scheme comprised the design and construction of a sewage screening building at the foot of the cliff at Scilly Cove and a 385m long sea outfall. A particular challenge was the lack of vehicular access through the village’s narrow lanes and the proximity of the internationally important Polruan to Polperro Special Area of Conservation and Site of Special Scientific Interest. The scheme was the winner of ICE SW Major Project of the Year Award 2012.
Adrian Perry is the Design Manager for Dean & Dyball Civil Engineering, a division of Balfour Beatty Regional Civil Engineering. His presentation will cover the design and construction methods used to both overcome the access problems and achieve a visually discreet solution in this Cornish beauty spot, including a novel ‘shaftless' access lift.
This event is being held in association with The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) South Western Branch.
Please note that there is no requirement to book a place to attend, but for all other enquiries please contact Joanne Mallard - joanne.mallard@ice.org.uk / 01752 766230.
