The seminar will encompass the engineering challenges and achievements that have been faced and overcome by the ports of the South West and Channel Islands, present-day developments and future aspirations. It will range from the development of Bristol’s Deep Sea Container Terminal to the upgrading of St Mary’s Quay in the Isles of Scilly, including the historic development of Millbay Plymouth, the re-generation of Hayle Harbour and a report from the current PIANC Working Group on Development Strategies for Existing Ports. 

The presentations will include histories and case studies from engineers who have practical experience
of port engineering. They will be a source of expertise and inspiration for any who may be engaged port
engineering and development in the course of their professional career.
