A presentation by Mathew Brett (BIM Consultant) from LUL.

An introduction to the exciting world of BIM, and the substantial impact it will have on the information modelling and management processes in the construction industry. An essential presentation for those not yet touched by this development, and an opportunity for all to improve their understanding of this topic.

BIM envisages a virtual environment encompassing Information Modelling, Information Management and Information Technology and thereby providing a collaborative environment to enable: the sharing of information; virtual visualisation; analysis of potential impacts and clash avoidance; quantity and resource
estimation; accurate as-constructed asset information; in order to drive efficiency improvements in construction and asset management.

The presentation will reference the Government’s 2011 Construction Strategy Paper and its drive to achieve BIM Level 2 status by 2016, along with emphasising the significance of BIM in developing a world class asset management regime.

LUL is striving to be a “world class” transport system and has, amongst others, been an early adopter of BIM by applying the methodologies to several high profile construction projects. These projects will demonstrate the process and the advantages to be realised from its usage for the planning, construction and future operation of the assets. This will pave the way for LUL to realise the Government’s mandate by 2016 and  beyond.
