Event Type Lecture

*Online registration is now closed. There are spaces still available on the door.*

Michael Norton MBE, Director of Municipal Water, AMEC and Chair of ICE Water Expert Panel, will outline the vital role played by water in the human biosphere, and how its various “colours” of blue, green, black and grey are used and abused by mankind. He will explain the concepts of virtual water and water footprint and how they have thrown light on the “globality” of water. Michael will frame the management of the UK’s water resources and its water security in the wide global context. He will outline three of the challenges facing mankind’s demand for water:

  • Population growth
  • Rising living standards
  • Climate change impacts on water availability

He will conclude by summarising why global water security is important for us all and how we must make it a reality through integrated water management.
