The Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link is a committed cross boundary transport infrastructure project, which will provide high speed rail services between Hong Kong and Guangzhou, and a connection to the national high-speed passenger rail network serving major mainland cities outside of Guangdong province. This network, which will comprise some 16,000km worth of rail, is now under construction in the Mainland.
This site visit will focus on the tunneling works with the use of TBM technique at the Contract 820 of XRL tunnel from Mei Lai Road to Hoi Ting Road. Tunnel Boring Machines (TBM) are adopted for boring a 3 km twin tube tunnel through the mixed ground. The works commenced in May 2010 and the project is expected to be commissioned by 2015. After previous completion of the launching shaft the TBM has already been delivered to the site.
All participants must hold a valid ‘Mandatory Basic Safety Training Certificate’, and ‘Certificate of Certified Workers of Confined Space Operation’ and must provide their own full set of PPE including retroreflective vest, helmet and safety shoes (steel-toe capped boots). All other essential personal protective equipment shall be provided.
Please note that no exceptions can be made in this regard and participants shall be turned away should they fail to fulfill these requirements.
