Event Type Meeting

The Graduate and Student Papers Competition showcases excellence in the communication of civil engineering issues and ideas. Topics should be related to the profession, preferably based on the author’s experience and sources may include undergraduate research papers, university projects, professional development or professional review reports. The competition offers an excellent opportunity to improve written and verbal skills for professional review.

From synopsis submissions three applicants have been invited to write and present a paper followed by 15 minutes for discussion. This will be a chance for our finalists to showcase their talent for communicating civil engineering ideas and research. It is also an excellent opportunity for them to improve their written and verbal skills in readiness for professional reviews.

This year's finalists are:

  • Jack Barrie - Enhancing rural water supply planning in Sierra Leone using an innovative monitoring and evaluation technique
  • Daniel Buxton - The Carbon Challenge; Decreasing Embodied Carbon by 50% on a Major Water Infrastructure Project

The regional winner will receive £250. There are also cash prizes for second and third place. There are currently no plans for a nation final this year but winners of our regional competition will still win a cash prize.

Please come along and support your colleagues. Light refreshments provided.
