Leeds Station is the second busiest station outside London. It is owned and managed by Network Rail. The area to the south of the station has seen substantial growth and regeneration over the past 10 years.

Major new developments and the regeneration of the south of the city have created demand for a new entrance from the railway station linking directly with the new developments. The Station Southern Entrance scheme comprises a concourse deck over the River Aire with open link span bridges connecting to the east and west banks of the river as well as extending back through station viaduct. From the new concourse links into the existing station footbridge which forms part of a new upper concourse.

The new entrance is being jointly promoted by Metro and Network Rail. The £15.9m scheme has secured £12.2m from DfT as well as funding from West Yorkshire's Local Transport Plan and Leeds City Council. The Public Inquiry into the Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO) application, for the necessary powers to construct the scheme concluded 6th December 2012, with a final decision to be made by the Secretary of State to follow by June 2013.

The Project Manager for scheme, Tom Gifford (Metro) will give an overview of the scheme and its background, followed by a Questions and Answer session.

The presentation and Q&A will be followed by the ICE Y&H Transport Special Interest Group AGM at 17:30. The committee welcomes new members to assist in organising transport related events for the region.
