The 2012/2013 programme of events continues with a presentation on the redevelopment of the iconic Marischal College building in Aberdeen. Founded initially as a Franciscan Friary in 1593, this magnificent granite building developed over the decades to become the centre point of Aberdeen city centre. Initially designed by famous architects, Marischal College is one of the largest granite façades in the world, second only to El Escorial in Madrid.
Following years of dilapidation, Aberdeen City Council secured a long term lease for the building and embarked upon a journey to restore the building back to its former glory and provide a 21st century headquarters building. Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd were appointed as main contractor in June 2009.
So how did they do it? Come along and find out.
Speaker: Steven Traynor, Sir Robert McAlpine
Refreshments from 6pm, lecture from 6.30pm.
