The role of transport in delivering low carbon growth
A year on from the publication of DfT's Local Transport White Paper "Creating Growth,Cutting Carbon " have we made any progress in delivering this challenging agenda? Or is delivering both environmental and growth agendas simultaneously an unachievable dream?
Our panelof high profile speakers will provide a range of perspectives on this topic, both from a national and regional level, and will give their thoughts on the key challenges facing the transport profession over the coming months and years.
Speakers:
Professor John WhiteIegg Is visiting Professor of SustainableTransport at LJMU and Professor of Sustainable Development at the University of York and Senior Research fellow at the Stockholm Environment Institute. John runs a consultancy company based in Lancaster, Eco-Logica Ltd, and edits the journal "World Transport Policy and Practice". His current projects Include developing a zero carbon transport plan for the UK by 2050.
Dr PauI Salveson MBE is a well-known rail professional with 35years' experience in a wide range of sectors and disciplines. He is a visiting professor at the University of Huddersfleld, in Transport and Logistics,and founded the Association of Community Rail Partnerships. Paul is currently convenor of a northern-based lobby group aiming to stimulate debate on devolved government for the North of England.
Lorna Pimlott Head of Low carbon Vehicles and Infrastructure UK, Ernst & Young. Lorna Is a chartered architect wtth extensive experience of advising public and private sector clients on large capital infrastructure programmes. She has been leading the Greater Manchester Electric Vehicle Scheme since 2009 and is currently seconded to lead its delivery body, The Manchester Electric Car company. Lorna will speak on the development of electric vehicles In the UK, opportunities for Investment and the challenges of establishing and sustaining the market for electric vehicles.
