The Seven Borealis is a versatile offshore pipelay and construction vessel.
Designed to meet the exacting requirements of today’s ultra-deep and deepwater projects, while maximising productivity and efficiency, the Seven Borealis can work in the world’s deepest and harshest environments.
- Length 182m x breadth 46m
- 600t tension S-Lay for up to 46-inch pipe diameter
- 1,000t top tension J-Lay system for up to 24-inch pipe diameter
- 2,400t onboard pipe storage
- Heave compensated 5,000t mast crane
- 2 x workclass 3,000m rated ROVs
The ship was originally designed as a DP, Heavy Lift Ship for the offshore market.
It was subsequently acquired by Subsea 7 during the build stage and converted into a state-of-the-art Offshore Construction Vessel.
The vessel is now operational and currently working off the west coast of Africa.
This presentation by Tom Welsh, Seven Borealis Project Director, Subsea 7, gives an insight into the operational advantages of the Seven Borealis plus the challenges that arose during the design, build and testing phases, together with some examples of the offshore operations that the vessel will undertake.
