Date 12 FEBRUARY 2013
Time 18:00 - 20:00
Event Type Meeting

Our first speaker, Sue Threader, holds the ancient position of Bridge Clerk (Chief Executive) to the Bridge Trust which was founded in 1399 for the perpetual maintenance of the crossings at Rochester.  Sue’s background is in civil engineering for local authorities and consultancies and, more recently, as Deputy Chief Exec of a local authority.  Sue will set the scene about the bridges which have crossed the Medway at Rochester, particularly the Medieval bridge which stood from 1391 to 1857. This is because John will then show his survey results which clearly show the remains of that bridge in the river bed.
We will be using the medieval bridge chapel for the presentation which dates from 1387 and is one of only 6 surviving.
Our second speaker, John  Dillon-Leetch, is Deputy Port Hydrographer at The Port of London Authority (PLA).  They have been undertaking high resolution MBES surveys of marine structures using SeaBat 8125 and 7125 systems since 2005. In 2008 they undertook a survey of the Strood/Rochester Road and Rail Bridges in 2008 for  Rochester Bridge Trust .  Other clients have included marine terminal owners, engineering consultancies, local authorities, windfarm and offshore operators and developers.

In this presentation John will outline the work undertaken to date, the problems encountered and where the PLA is at this stage in the development of its service. Data examples will be shown with live demonstrations of different  delivery software options each with associated pros and cons.

It is hoped that there will be an open discussion from attendees on their experiences of similar integrated surveys and their professional opinions on the requirements of engineers when it comes to marine structure inspection surveys .
