The model building competition organized by ICE HKA G&S is a joint university event where students can apply the engineering knowledge learnt in their studies to design and build a physical model fulfilling a project specification. The project brief will be given in advance and students are required to build the model by using the materials provided.

The New South Wales AGM is taking place on 7 March 2013 at 6pm. It will be followed by a technical lecture “The Glenfield to Leppington Rail Link - the challenges and solutions to facilitate growth in South West Sydney with New South Wales’s newest railway infrastructure” given by David Polkinghorne, Design Manager of John Holland and David Putley, Engineering Manager of Transport for New South Wales.
This talk will outline of the performance of post-tensioned structures, the necessary reviews of investigations, reports, their processes and their findings. The implications for bridge owners/managers, and the essential lessons learnt will be revealed.
In this talk – Bob Feurtado and Charlie Morrow of Carillion Technical Services – will give an overview on the process and timescales for getting works to utility services carried out including the design & approvals, and subsequent site works. They will also discuss surveys and mapping of existing services, the management and planning of diversion works, and current best practice including 3D modelling of services for planning and coordination as part of Building Information Modelling (BIM).
