At present, stormwater from Kowloon Bay, Ngau Tau Kok and Jordan Valley is discharged into Kai Tak Approach Channel (KTAC) through JVBC, which is an underground seven cell reinforced concrete stormwater drainage box culvert. And the polluted dry weather flow in JVBC has attributed to poor water quality and odour nuisance in KTAC.
In 2008, The Environmental Protection Department completed a study on the control of water pollution at JVBC . The study has recommended interception of the polluted dry weather flow at the downstream of JVBC in addition to removal of expedient connections for controlling the water pollution in KTAC.
DSD has been consigned to undertake the implementation of the interception project. Preparation works were started in September 2008. It included site investigation, survey, impact assessment and detailed design. The $400 million project has commenced in December 2010 for completion in Mid- 2014.
