Date 24 APRIL 2013
Time 18:00 - 20:00
Event Type Meeting

Refreshments will be available from 18.00 and the presentation will commence at 18.30.
The geological setting of the majority of dams means that they invariably have less than ideal foundation conditions and face multiple geohazards (e.g. strong earthquake shaking, abutment and reservoir margin instability, fault rupture).  A number of case histories from around the World will be used to demonstrate the current state of the practice in geohazards assessment, where the ultimate aim is to obtain a frequency-magnitude characterisation for each hazard.  The implications for design and the chosen mitigation measures for each site will also be discussed.
Our speaker is Dr Clark Fenton, Senior Lecturer in Engineering Geology & Seismic Hazards, Geotechnics Section, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Imperial College London.
