The London 2012 Olympic Stadium was the first of its kind to be designed to allow a significant reduction in seating capacity from 80,000 to 25,000 seats after the Olympic Paralympic Games.
The primary objective of Team Stadium was to create a totally integrated design and construction team together with aligned objectives with the Olympic Delivery Authority.
Concept Design started in June 2007 and was complete by November of that year, with construction commencing only 6 months later.  Early procurement of major packages, concurrent design of key elements of the project and the maximisation of pre-fabrication played a major role in the project’s success:- it was completed two months early, under budget and with an exemplary safety performance.

Our speaker is Tony Aikenhead, Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd.  Tony is a Main Board Director and Director of Operations with over 40 years’ experience in the construction industry, having previously held responsibility, both as a Project Director and executively, for the delivery of a number of major high profile projects and programmes globally.
Tony is also the Construction Board Director responsible for Health and Safety.  In addition to the experience he has accumulated on both major projects and in corporate roles, he has initiated and is responsible for the roll-out in Sir Robert McAlpine of a company-wide Safety Leadership Programme. This concentrates upon securing the leadership and commitment required to achieve an extraordinary safety culture with the objective of eliminating worker injury on their construction projects, incorporating a holistic approach in the engagement of the entire workforce.
