The AMP5 National Environmental Programme has introduced an effluent quality requirement of 8 mg/l Total Nitrogen for the Millbrook WTW site. 4Delivery Ltd (4D) is a multidisciplinary consortium comprising Veolia, Costain and MWH which has been carrying out over £300 million of environmental improvement and water quality schemes for Southern water in AMP5 and is responsible for the project management, design and delivery of this scheme.
This will be achieved by construction of a new 35000m3 activated sludge plant, 2 No 31m diameter final settlement tanks and various pumping stations, together with interconnecting pipework and pumping mains between the existing and new structures. In addition there are various ancillary structures to complete: a new blower building, MCC control building, standby generator, and associated ducts and drawpits with new cabling.
Initial construction of the first half of the new activated sludge plant will allow partial diversion of existing flows at the site to enable demolition and removal of an existing activated sludge plant and primary settlement tanks. The second half of the new ASP can then be constructed and the new works commissioned.
Booking for this visit is essential and is limited to 25 people. The visit will commence with a short description of the works prior to a guided tour of them. Attendees are requested to bring their own Personal Protective Equipment where possible, including safety boots, high-visibility vest/jacket, helmet, gloves and eye protection. Where this is not possible, you will need to give advance warning (to Anne Qualters – see below for contacts), including boot size. Ladies are requested to wear trousers, for practical reasons.
