Earthquake Engineering in the UK

This technical lecture from Dr Andrew Mair and Andreas Nielsen of Jacobs provides an insight into earthquake engineering, with a focus on current practice in the UK, but also drawing from international experience. The speakers discuss many aspects of earthquake engineering, from seismic hazard studies, through to seismic analysis and design. Examples from recent commissions are presented.

Dr Andrew Mair is a Director of Operations in Jacobs, a Fellow of the ICE and IStructE, and Chairman of the Society for Earthquake and Civil Engineering Dynamics (SECED). Andreas Nielsen is a Principal Engineer in Jacobs, a Member of the ICE and the SECED committee. As well as possessing a wealth of project experience in earthquake engineering, both have written numerous technical papers on earthquake engineering and dynamics.
