The world use of coal is increasing at a time when we need to limit emissions to prevent significant environmental impact.  This summary report outlines the status of coal production and consumption alongside the requirements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  It also summarises medium to long term forecasts in the UK, and the need for cleaner coal technologies such as carbon sequestration.
