Following the small (magnitude 2.3) earthquake triggered by hydrofracking into a shale gas reservoir near Blackpool, the technique has assumed a high profile in the media, with policy-makers and among the public. The SECED event, co-organised with the ICE, has a broader focus, bringing in hydrofracking experiences from the geothermal and more conventional hydrocarbons industries as well as those from Blackpool (Preese Hall). The issue of induced seismicity, broader environmental concerns, and policy, were presented and discussed.
