ICE’s response to the House of Commons Communities and Local Government Select Committee’s call for evidence on the draft National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF). The Committee has been invited by the Minister for Planning and Decentralisation, Greg Clark, to examine the draft NPPF, which was published on in July. The purpose of the Committee's inquiry will be to ensure that the document forms an adequate, clear and comprehensive framework of national planning policy. Evidence submissions will be shared with the Environmental Audit Committee, which plans to undertake its own, brief inquiry into the presumption in favour of sustainable development contained in the draft NPPF.

The Committee does not intend to examine in detail the policies on individual areas of planning policy and set a number of general questions which ICE responded to directly. ICE also intends to respond to the Department for Communities and Local Government’s more detailed consultation. The deadline for submissions is 17 October, 2011.
