ICE/Scott Wilson Transport Lecture 2009
It is now more than 50 years since the motorway became part of life in Britain. The motorway and trunk road network is vital to work, commerce and leisure. The asset is getting older and more congested and environmental constraints and financial pressures restrict further development. This lecture explores how our motorway and trunk road network is used now, how it works alongside other modes, and the extent to which technology and real time operation are used to meet demand. It also considers some possible developments in the future.
