A key aspect of developing and maintaining infrastructure is to ensure that it is sustainable and able to meet our present needs.
Planetary boundaries provide a measure of human activity in relation to the capacity of the Earth to sustain that activity. ICE has outlined five key challenges that will need to be answered. Recommendations are also made to ensure a closer joint working between funders, industry and academia.
