This guide deals mainly with the behaviour of pile groups subjected to vertical applied loading, with particular reference to piled raft foundations in cohesive soils. A brief account is given of various methods of pile group analysis available, and their application to design practice is discussed. Results of model and full—scale tests on pile groups in clay are given, and field data obtained from instrumented piled raft foundations are presented in summary form.
