The “State of the Nation” report examines the current state of Northern Ireland’s key infrastructure set against the context of urgent need to shift towards a low carbon economy and the reality of government’s spending constraints. The report then grades different sectors of Northern Ireland’s infrastructure using an A to E system where an A grade is defined as being “fit for future” and an E grade the equivalent to being “not fit for purpose”.
No aspect of Northern Ireland’s infrastructure received an A grading however, with water, waste, flooding and the energy sectors scoring a Grade C, or “requiring attention”. Some room for optimism however is provided by the transport sector, which scores a credible Grade B or “adequate for now”.
