The Millennium Development Goals is a series of 8 realistic achievable goals, with 18 targets and 48 indicators relating to every aspect of development.  They were proposed by the United Nations in the Millennium Declaration and the 191 nations of the UN signed up to achieve these goals by 2015.  This briefing paper gives a general introduction to the goals which aim to reduce world poverty and improve the quality of life for millions of people in the poorest parts of the planet.
