The Carlisle to Glasgow road has evolved to meet the need of mankind. The Romans were the first road builders to work on this route.
In the 19th century Telford's work marked the change from a poorly maintained track to a road of national importance.
Since then Civil Engineers have used their skills to improve and upgrade the route to produce the motorway we have today.
