Electricity and gas transmission and distribution companies must provide a reliable service, whilst at the same time remaining able to respond to and anticipate the economic and environmental challenges.  The extent of these makes it clear that this part of the energy infrastructure in the UK will have to change dramatically in the near future.

This lecture discusses how this is going to affect the work of civil engineers and the environmental and economic pressures on the energy grids.
