Building on the wealth of knowledge relating to water processes that he has amassed from a high-level career in the water resources sector, Professor Grey focuses on the range of global water resource challenges that increasingly constrain development around the world. These problems are well-known and vary from changing water patterns due to climate change, through to more immediate issues such as the need for markedly increased deployment of water to meet man’s agricultural, industrial and domestic needs, at the same time as trying to conserve ecological balances.
The underlying theme that Professor Grey develops during the lecture is the dichotomy between utilising water resources to support modern expansion and development, and conserving water resources in order to manage environmental and humanitarian consequences.
