Document supply

A document supply service is available to Members and the public. Photocopies can be posted worldwide or scanned PDFs can be sent by email where copyright conditions permit.

Our charges are given below (prices include VAT) and depend, for legal reasons, on the status of the request: non-commercial or commercial please see below).

Scanning and photocopy charges

There is an additional copyright fee of £12.00 per document for commercial scans and photocopies.

Please note that there is a minimum charge of £5.00 for all documents supplied by post or email and for any payments made by credit card, debit card or cheque.

The supply of any document which is in copyright (within 70 years of the death(s) of the author(s)) will require a copyright declaration form to be submitted (see right).

It is advisable to confirm availability and price by telephoning or emailing the Library with your request in the first instance.


Non-commercial copying

  • Research in educational establishments, unrelated to any commercial venture
  • Employees’ own private research or study, unrelated to any commercial venture
  • Research on a genuinely pro-bono basis
  • Any individual’s private research or study, unrelated to any commercial venture

Commercial copying

  • Research relevant to research and development in a commercial company (e.g. product development)
  • Research relevant to research and development where results will be passed to a commercial company for commercial use
  • Market research or competitor intelligence in all organisations
  • Searching for legislation and regulations for a commercial company
  • Work done by an information broker for clients

Copyright declaration forms

You will need to complete, sign and return the appropriate form in order to obtain a PDF or photocopy.

You can return your form by post, fax or by emailing a scan of the completed form to us. Please see the main text for the definition of commercial and non-commercial work.
