ICE members of all grades can borrow up to three items in person or by post within the UK and Ireland. Items can be requested for posting or reserved for collection through the Library catalogue, by telephone or by email.
Requested items are sent first-class by Royal Mail (certain large items may be sent by parcel post or courier) and any book requests received before 3 pm will be sent the same day. The service is free but we would be grateful for a refund of our postage cost. The loan period is three weeks and, providing the book has not been requested by another user, it can be renewed online up to three times. If it is needed for longer than that, please contact us by telephone or email.
Books not available from our Library can usually be obtained via interlibrary loan. There is no charge for items borrowed from another Engineering Institution, but the British Library charges £13.15 per item.
Members outside the British Isles can borrow materials but should contact the Library first to discuss the most reliable method of despatch. In many cases electronic delivery of scanned documents may be more reliable.
Members are responsible for the material they borrow and will be billed for the full cost of unreturned items. If you have ordered something and it has not arrived within 48 hours, please contact the Library immediately in case it has gone missing in the post.
Returning loans
Books can be returned in person or by post. Please note that you are responsible for your loans until we receive them. If posting your items, you may want to use a recorded or otherwise-insured service to ensure they get to us.
