Associate Member (AMICE)

Associate Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (AMICE) is open to a wide range of people who are engaged in a profession that directly supports or is closely allied with, the work of a civil engineer operating in the built environment.

Routes to Associate Membership

There are two routes to Associate Membership of ICE:

AMICE

This route is open to those individuals who are engaged in a profession that directly supports or is closely allied with the work of a civil engineer operating in the built environment.

There are three stages in qualifying as a Associate Member (AMICE):

  

1. Educational base

The educational base for this grade of membership is a Bachelors degree in any subject. For full details, please consult the educational base section.


If your academic qualification does not meet the Engineering Council benchmark, you may demonstrate that you have compensated for the shortfall in a number of other ways.

2. Initial Professional Development (IPD)

IPD can be satisfied by completion of one of the following:

If you are also seeking CEnv registration, you will be required to complete the Environmental Professional Development (EPD) objectives described in Appendix B in ICE 3008A

You must have completed stages 1 and 2 before making an application for Professional Review (stage 3).


3. Professional Review - making an application

For details on the Professional Reviews process, please consult the Professional Review section. Registration with the Engineering Council is not applicable to this grade of membership.

CEnv AMICE

Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), Associate Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (AMICE)

This is a combined route for those who wish to obtain professionally qualified status of ICE together with registration as a Chartered Environmentalist.

To obtain CEnv AMICE, you must be successful at the joint CEnv/AMICE Professional Review at which you must demonstrate knowledge of, competence in, and engagement with sustainable management of the environment together with demonstration of an understanding of technical or scientific rather than engineering principles.

ICE publication of the names of applicants for Membership (By Law 16)

Professional Review Candidates' names will be published in New Civil Engineer, New Civil Engineer International and on the ICE website for a period of 28 days to allow ICE Members to communicate in writing to the Director General if they have any reason to give why an applicant is not a fit and proper person to become a member. This list will be published in the Membership downloads section of the website.
