The Engineering Council is the regulatory body for the engineering profession in the UK.
It holds the national registers of 235,000 Chartered Engineers (CEng), Incorporated Engineers (IEng), Engineering Technicians (EngTech) and Information and Communications Technology Technicians (ICTTech) across a range of professional engineering institutions.
About the Engineering Council
In addition, the Engineering Council sets and maintains the internationally recognised standards of professional competence and ethics that govern the award and retention of these titles. This ensures that employers, government and wider society - both in the UK and overseas - can have confidence in the knowledge, experience and commitment of registrants.

Routes to gaining Engineering Council registration
If you wish to obtain Engineering Council registration through ICE you will be required to be successful at one of the ICE Professional Reviews as noted below.
- Technician Professional Review - Engineering Technician (EngTech)
- Member Professional Review - Incorporated Engineer (IEng)
- Chartered Professional Review - Chartered Engineer (CEng)
- Chartered Professional Review (Progressive) - Chartered Engineer (CEng)

Fees
Registration fees are paid annually to the professional engineering institution through which you are registered with the Engineering Council.

Reinstatement of Engineering Council Registration
Reinstatement of your EC registration is not automatic if you have allowed it to lapse. It will depend on the length of time you have been off the Engineering Council Registration roll and will be relevant to the level of registration held at the time of it lapsing.
