Experienced Civil Engineer Pathway

The Experienced Civil Engineer Pathway is intended to provide an alternative option for potential members who are operating within the Civil Engineering industry in a capacity where they oversee and are responsible for the work undertaken by ICE’s professionally qualified members.

Benefits

  • The pathway allows experienced engineers to prepare for their professional review in their time rather than being dependant on the ICE timelines
  • Becoming a member entitles you to a wide range of benefits to support your civil engineering career
  • You are able to prepare a single competency report rather than the two experience and project reports
  • The competency report and your demonstration of experience looks at the Attributes rather then the Development Objective, which may have been achieved as part of your earlier career

Find out more about the benefits you can receive when you become a member of ICE.

Am I eligible?

To be eligible to use the Experienced Civil Engineer Pathway, you must hold an appropriate educational base for your desired level of registration and be responsible for the work of one or more professionally qualified Civil Engineers at or above the grade for which you are applying.

Full details of the eligibility criteria are provided within MGN 49.

Application Procedure

There are two stages to the process, an Experience Review and the Professional Review.

Experience Review

The Experience Review is a desk top based study designed to confirm the eligibility of the application for pathway and to ensure that the candidate has sufficient evidence to proceed to the Review. The submission for an Experience Review shall consist of:

  • A suitable Application Form* - ICE 3114
  • A Promoter/Supporter Statement
  • An extended detailed Curriculum Vitae
  • An organisational chart showing the position of responsibility held and the staff the candidate has responsibility for, including their ICE grade(s).
  • CPD record comprising a Personal Development Record (PDR) for at least the past three years plus a Development Action Plan (DAP) for at least the last year.
  • Certified copy of academic qualifications.
  • Appropriate Application Fee.

Professional Review

Where so permitted by the Experience Review, the candidate may apply for a Professional Review. The application for a Professional Review shall comprise:

  • A suitable application form – ICE 3115
  • Three Supporters statements - ICE 3123
  • A Summary CV
  • Experience Review pass letter.
  • A Competence Report.
  • Current CPD record comprising PDR documents for at least the last three years and DAP record for at least the current year.
  • Payment of an appropriate Fee

ICE Publication of the names of applicants for Membership (By law 16)

Professional Review candidate’s names will be published in New Civil Engineer, New Civil Engineer International and on the ICE website for a period of 28 days to allow ICE Members to communicate in writing to the Director General if they have any reason to give why an applicant is not a fit and proper person to become a member. This list will be published in the Membership downloads section of the website.
