Professionally qualified members of the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) may qualify for ICE Membership without the need to sit the ICE’s Professional Review.
What is the CICES Agreement?
ICE welcomes applications for membership from Members and Fellows of the Chartered Institution Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES). Applicants must have been a CICES Corporate member for more than 2 years and have extensive experience of working in the built environment.
Important information: Applications will only be considered for MICE only. Registration with the Engineering Council (EC) is not permitted via this route. For those wishing to apply for registration with EC, please consult Routes To Membership (MICE) for further details.
Am I eligible?
You will require an academic qualification, which meets the academic base for ICE Membership (MICE) as detailed in the table below, be a current Member of CICES for more than 2 years and have extensive experience of working in the built environment.

* Cognate degrees are those such as physics, mathematics, chemistry, geology (etc) where there is a strong science base but where the engineering application may be lacking

How to make an application?
To make an application for membership via the CICIES Mutual Recognition Agreement you must submit the appropriate application form (below) along with the appropriate documentation as detailed in the CICES application guidance document.
You will be required to pay a non refundable application fee and all applications must be submitted by the appropriate assessment deadline.
How is your application assessed?
Your application will be assessed by the ICE's Exemption and Recognition Panel, who will be looking to confirm how you have achieved the ICE Member attributes, specific to CICES candidates, as detailed in CICES application guidance document.
After the assessment
- Successful applicants will be admitted to the ICE as Member.
- On admission as a Member you will be invoiced for the ICE entrance fee (unless you are an ICE Graduate member of at least 2 year’s standing),
- You will receive an ICE Membership certificate will be issued once all outstanding fees have been settled.
- If your application was not successful you will be advised in writing of the reasons why and may be invited for interview.

1. Will I have to attend an interview?
The assessment is conducted by the ICE’s Exemption & Recognition Panel and is on the basis of the documentation submitted; the Panel may request additional information or invite a candidate to attend an interview.
