This year, the G&S Committee of ICE Yorkshire and Humber will be organising a completely new event: a series of lectures about one project, culminating in a site visit.
The project is “Linton Falls”, to be constructed by JN Bentley, and it aims to create a 100kW hydro turbine on a small weir at Linton Falls on the River Wharfe, near Grassington, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. This will produce an estimated 500,000 kW hours per year, saving around 216 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year (when compared to fossil fuel generation).
The aim of the series is to provide an all-round view of the project “Linton Falls”, with each lecture delivered by an expert involved in a particular aspect of the project. The four lectures will run weekly over four weeks and will be based on the following:
- Scope outline and design process
- Contract, commercial, procurement method, funding
- Sustainability/environmental/heritage/project-specific issues
- Construction process & programme, including H&S and quality
The series will be relevant to designers, contractors, consultants, local authorities and central government and is suitable for delegates who wish to attend any number of the lectures (culminating in a site visit). All lectures will be held at Leeds Metropolitan University (Northern Terrace, Queen Square Court).
Places will be limited so, to register an early interest or to ask for additional information, please e-mail iceyandh@ice.org.uk.
Note: Dates will be confirmed following final landowner negotiation.
