A2 Calatayud Alfalarín project
In May 2008 Currie & Brown (UK) was appointed as Technical Advisor for Lenders to the A2 - Calatayud-Alfajarín Project. Its contract included: (1) Due Diligence prior to financial closing, (2) Construction monitoring and reporting. Ferrovial has overall responsibility for the design, build, finance and operation & maintenance of 107.24 km of the existing Madrid/Barcelona A2 motorway over the 19-year period.
As part of the DD Technical Advisory Team, UK, payment mechanism (48 comprehensive KPIs) I applied a scholastic method of risk quantification using technical inputs. Back in Spain, 2009, on behalf of Currie & Brown, I led the monitoring phase team and observed Ferrovial’s high-tech building procedures, which were completed despite the difficulties of keeping the road continuously in use.
New techniques and procedures were introduced in earthworks and stabilization; road sustainable surfacing; and an efficient drainage system.
The bespoke design & build was challenging and will benefit the final user and the Concessionaire, as the KPIs encourage good maintenance at all times. The former by the quality of the road and the latter financially.
Mercedes Martín IEng, ICE Member in Spain, worked on this project.
