In March 2011 we introduced a new online academic assessment application process for those individuals who hold non-accredited qualification(s) and wish to have them formally assessed by ICE.
The pilot study is now complete and we're delighted to report the online tool is working well.
For anyone who does not hold an academic qualification which automatically meets our educational base requirements for a particular grade of membership and for registration with the Engineering Council, you will need to apply for an academic assessment. This means your qualifications will be assessed on an individual basis by the Institution’s Academic Qualifications Panel (AQP).
Academic assessment is a process that assesses if your academic qualification(s) meet the education base criteria for:
- Membership with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE)
- Registration of professional qualification with the Engineering Council (EC) as a Chartered Engineer (CEng), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Engineering Technician (Eng Tech).
You do not have to be a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) to apply for an academic assessment. However if you were a Graduate member and your membership has lapsed, you must reinstate your membership first before proceeding with an academic assessment. Please refer to MGN33 for details of what is required.
After the assessment you will be admitted as an ICE Graduate member (if not already a member). Becoming a Graduate member of ICE entitles you to a wide range of benefits to support you in your civil engineering career. You will receive the result of your assessment, via email. The result will indicate the level of membership with ICE and registration with the Engineering Council you are eligible for. If it is determined that you do not meet the educational base for your desired level, you will be advised of any progression route(s) that you may be required to follow.
