Big Bang North West

A Bridge Building Computer Game proved a big draw for the ICE North West stand at the Big Bang North West in Liverpool on 10 July.

Big Bang North West 2012ICE NW Membership Development Officer Ian Yates was joined by QUEST Technician scholar Anton Loraine at the ICE stand. Over 70 school students visited during the day to talk to Anton and Ian, and to pit their wits against the simulation which required them to design various bridges, run vehicles over them, and then check they would stand up during an earthquake!

Ian said, “Big Bang North West is a key educational event for our region. Anton and I were pleased that so many visitors were interested in civil engineering. We are looking forward to coming again next year.”

The Big Bang Near Me consists of live events that offer young people the opportunity to experience hands-on learning in an informal environment outside the classroom. They’re free to attend, fun, inspirational and interactive. The fairs encourage enquiry-based learning and stimulate interest in science, technology, engineering and maths. They also offer an insight into future careers in the local area and beyond.
