The inaugural Base Birmingham event takes place at Edgbaston cricket ground on 11 April 2013.
It is geared around the premise that Birmingham’s green and smart city agendas represent both an amazing challenge and opportunity; and the transformation of Birmingham’s built environment and infrastructure has the potential to act as a major driver of economic growth. It will also underpin and secure the city’s long-term competitiveness and success in a resource and energy constrained world, as well as future-proofing it against the potential effects of climate change.
Base Birmingham, the latest activity in the rapidly developing Base Cities programme, will help to galvanise the market by showcasing the city’s ambitions and how these translate into opportunities for the private sector. In the main this means the how, why, what, when and where, of issues such as retrofitting housing, public buildings, offices, shops, public spaces and the streetscape, and the re-engineering of the city’s transport, waste, water and energy systems. The approach is broad-based with content covering not only engineering, science and technology innovations, but also governance, partnership working, funding and procurement.
The programme will include inspirational and thought-provoking keynotes together with practical and delivery-focused half-day workshops running in five parallel streams. The event is expected to attract around 600 delegates and includes a services-led exhibition with ample networking environments and a comprehensive fringe programme involving Base Birmingham’s partners and supporters, of which ICE is one.
Sir Albert Bore, leader of Birmingham City Council, chairs the Base Birmingham advisory board and Amey is the Platinum Sponsor. For more information please visit www.basecities.com/birmingham
