Careers and Beers

Date:

7 APRIL 2011

ICE North East’s Graduates and Students committee held a special social event at a Durham hotel recently to help promote career paths in the sector.

In a novel way of mixing business and pleasure, they raised a glass to their chosen profession at the Careers and Beers event at a local Hotel.

In a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere, it’s an informal opportunity for students to find out more about civil engineering and the work of ICE, without any fear of “hard sell”

So who was there?

Speakers at the event included representatives of contractors, consultants and the public sector, such as representatives from Jacobs, Laing O’Rourke, Rapid5d, the Environment Agency and Scott Wilson.

Alison Mee of Mott MacDonald, chair of the Committee and a speaker at the event said “Careers and Beers is a great way to get students interested in civil engineering. There is a relaxed attitude, with no pressure applied to those who attend, who simply get a chance to hear from people around their age who have been in their position and made the choice to follow a civil engineering career path.”
