Careers and beers on the menu at ICE event

Date:

9 MARCH 2011

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) North East’s Graduates and Students Committee held a special social event at a Durham hotel to help promote career paths in the sector.

ICE North East’s Graduates & Students committee raised a glass to their chosen profession at the Careers and Beers event at the Three Tuns Hotel.

Set in a relaxing and welcoming atmosphere, Careers and Beers is an informal opportunity for the Committee’s peers to find out more about civil engineering and the work of the ICE, without any fear of “hard sell”.

Speakers at the event included representatives of contractors, consultants and the public sector, such as Laura O’Toole of Jacobs, Laura Brown and Greg O’Connell of Laing O’Rourke, Russ Hynes of Rapid5d, Ted Thomas of the Environment Agency and Nick Collins of Scott Wilson.

Alison Mee of Mott MacDonald, chair of the Committee and a speaker at the event, said: “Careers and Beers is a great way to get students interested in civil engineering.

“There is a relaxed attitude, with no pressure applied to those who attend, who simply get a chance to hear from people around their age who have been in their position and made the choice to follow a civil engineering career path.”

The next careers and beers event will take place at Dickens Inn, Middlesbrough on Tuesday 19th April at 6.00pm. Anybody who would like more information about the event, or to register, should contact Neil Finch at F6934998@live.tees.ac.uk
