Deputy Mayor joins judges for London civil engineering awards 2013
The Deputy Mayor of London, Victoria Borwick AM is one of five judges who will be assessing entries for the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) London Civil Engineering Awards 2013 – the first time a senior London politician has been a member of the judging panel.
Director of ICE London, Miranda Housden, said: “The ICE London Civil Engineering Awards celebrate outstanding civil engineering achievement, innovation and ingenuity in London and during the last decade have become the highest honour for engineering excellence in the capital.
“But the awards are not just about the technical aspects of a project but also about the contribution they make to the physical and social environment so we are delighted the Deputy Mayor, Victoria Borwick, has agreed to join the judging panel.”
Victoria Borwick said: “Civil engineers leave a lasting impression on London – Bazalgette’s sewage system and the London Underground, which celebrates its 150th anniversary next year, being two prominent examples.
“The ICE London Civil Engineering Awards are an opportunity to recognise excellence in projects delivered by the current generation of civil engineers, projects which will have similar long lasting impacts on our city so I rapidly accepted the invitation to join the judging panel so I could see details of those projects and express my opinion on which ones are the iconic schemes which will be remembered in the next century.
“I am looking forward to working with my fellow judges as we explore the civil engineering projects entered for these awards and assess their impact on London.”
Chairing the Judging Panel is Rod Macdonald who is the UK Director of TSE-n Metro UK Ltd working in the field of advanced security surveillance and is a director of CIMC Modular Systems working on their Verbus System.
