Deputy Mayor of London launches ICE State of the Nation report at City Hall

Date:

6 JULY 2010

ICE London launched the latest State of the Nation report on 17 June at City Hall, the home of the Mayor of London and the Greater London Authority.

The London briefing for the State of the Nation: Infrastructure 2010 report scored London’s water, waste, transport, flood and energy systems against the wider backdrop of public spending cuts, the urgent need to shift to a low carbon society and a recovering economy.

The report aims to provide recommendations for priority actions at the start of the new national and local government. Findings were based on the collective input and experiences of ICE members based in the region, and were compiled during a series of workshops throughout February 2010.

Over 80 senior figures from London’s government attended the launch including London Assembly Members and newly elected local councillors. Richard Barnes AM, Deputy Mayor of London (pictured above), delivered the keynote address and a high profile panel discussion took place afterwards.

David Orr, past ICE President and chair of the report steering group, presented the report’s findings to the audience followed by a panel discussion with the leading engineers and representatives responsible for the planning, funding, development and maintenance of London’s infrastructure.

The panelists were:

  • John Dickie, Director of Strategy and Policy, London First
  • Michele Dix, Managing Director of Group Planning, Transport for London
  • Nigel Mattravers, Director, Grant Thornton, Director, London Remade
  • Tony Travers, Director, Greater London Group, London School of Economics
